§ Ms. Mercy Alonso-Rodriguez is a native of Habana, Cuba and grew up in The Bronx, N.Y. She attended Walton H.S. and received a Bachelor's in Spanish from Hartwick College . Later attended St. John's University where she received a Master's in Education. In the mid eighties, she transplanted herself to Houston, Texas and became an elementary teacher with SBISD for 3 years and then taught for nine years at Lee H.S. in HISD. While teaching at Lee High enrolled in the School Administration Program at HBU and received her second Master's in School Administration.

Ms. Alonso-Rodriguez has taught at all levels of the educational spectrum and has served as an Assistant Principal at Edison M.S. in the East End of Houston. She's a member of several professional organizations including: Hispanic Women in Leadership, HASA and AHSA. She enjoys traveling and learning about the culture and people of the places she visits. She also enjoys reading, bowling and dancing.
